The city

Ravenna is a city of art and it has an attractive old town that represents its focal point.
It has eight UNESCO monuments: Basilica of San Vitale, Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Arian Baptistery, Orthodox (or Neonian) Baptistery, St. Andrew's Chapel, Mausoleum of Theodoric,
Basilica of St. Apollinare in Classe.
It is connected to the sea by the harbour channel about 12 Km long, the most important seaport of the Adriatic coast.
In addition to the many cultural and artistic features Ravenna has a rich and diverse district: from the famous pine forest to the Garibaldi hut and the reserve where birds of rare and endangered species live, from the beaches to the hills near thermal areas, to the amusement park Mirabilandia.

Ravenna was a large military port during the Roman Empire and in the early fifth century it became the capital of the Western Roman Empire. Under the domination of the Byzantines the city was elected seat of the Prefecture of Italy by the Emperor Justinian, thus reflecting the magnificence of the eastern Byzantine court.
Today it is famous for its beautiful early christian and byzantine mosaics with fantastic colors that leave an indelible mark in the visitors mind.
Ravenna is not "just" that, it has many other monuments like the tomb of Dante Alighieri and others of great importance though little known, such as the collection of icons at the National Museum and the ancient nautical chart at the Classense Library.

The Hotel Bisanzio is in the best location to live the city of Ravenna, it is in the city centre, the perfect place to take a stroll and go shopping, a safe area within a restricted traffic area, near the main monuments, theaters, universities, municipality, province, train station and the chamber of Commerce.
